Purchases and Refunds

Purchasing

When submitting your membership application, renewal or other order you are allowing The British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy to use your personal details to fulfil your order. In the event of there being a problem with your order we will communicate with you via e-mail, telephone or letter.

Only bookings for events, subscriptions to our publications and membership related services are provided via this website. No goods or products are sold through this site.

Transactions take place over a secure connection. Where applicable VAT is charged at the standard UK rate.

Cancellation and amendments

If you pay for a membership subscription, renewal or publication, you have in accordance with applicable EU and UK law a 7 day cooling off period during which you have the right to cancel and receive a refund. You don’t need to give a reason to cancel. If you do decide to cancel within the 7 days, we will refund your payment usually within 7 days, but no later than within 30 days of your cancellation.

Your statutory rights are not affected.

Privacy Policy

About us

The British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy is a registered charity in England and Wales (no.1093118), and a company limited by guarantee, registered in England (no. 4443910). We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (no. Z6861413) in the UK under the Data Protection Act 1998.
Membership and fulfilment services are provided to the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy through a Royal Society of Biology database, QuickBooks and ScholarOne.

The information we collect

The types of personal information we collect may include:
Personal details: title, first name, surname, gender, date of birth, your qualifications, home and work contact details (telephone, street address, email address, credit card details or bank details) and your mailing address.

Professional details: employment related information such as job title, areas of interest/expertise and your job function if we consider this to be relevant to your membership of the Society. When purchasing a product offered by the Society, including such products and membership subscription or event registration, your credit / debit card details are also collected. These details are temporarily stored until we have processed your order.

How your personal information is handled

The British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy respects the privacy of its members and individuals that come into contact with the Society in the course of its business, such as those accessing its resources, attending its events and accessing information via its website. The Society aims to act consistently with the Data Protection Act, and the eight principles of data protection.

The ways in which the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy collects personal information is directly from you or via its CRM database. Fill out and submit a Membership application form. We may collect information from you when you:

  • Apply and submit or update and submit information in connection with your application for membership or the purchase of products and services.
  • Register for an open access resource via the website.
  • Make an enquiry via a web form.
  • Apply to stand for election to any position advertised by the Society.
  • Apply for a grant.
  • Register to attend an event.

We collect personal data to administer our core business activities, products, services and research grants.

How we maintain the accuracy of your data

Members can update or correct the information we hold on them by contacting the Society by email: dirwin@bsac.org.uk or in writing to the registered address.

Payment and bank details

Any information provided by you in connection with a direct debit payment or transaction regarding your credit or debit card numbers, expiry date and billing or delivery address will be used by us to process the transaction. Once the transaction is completed, and other than for direct debits where bank details are retained on a secure, encrypted server, the Society will destroy all details immediately.

Use and disclosure of your information

The Society's policy is not to disclose any personal information that we hold on you to any unrelated third party, except where you have given your express consent for us to do so or where required by law.

Occasionally we will make arrangements with suppliers of goods and services (such as other scientific societies for their mailings to be sent to members). All material is carefully vetted and the mailing list is never released to third parties. The British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy may use your email address for the purpose of notifying you about products, services, events or activities of relevance to you. If you tell us that you do not wish us to use your personal information for a particular purpose, we will not do so.

Email addresses of people who place electronic orders are used for reply purposes only unless specifically stated otherwise. We also collect email addresses from people who subscribe to our electronic newsletter 'Transmission'. If you do not want to receive emails from us in the future please unsubscribe using the link provided.

Personal information collected on this website will be used only for the purpose stated (such as the processing of grant applications) and such information will be held for as long as necessary to fulfil the stated purpose. Personal data collected during the process of membership application will be kept indefinitely, in a secure database, for the purpose of lapsed membership campaigns.

The British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (or its committee members/representatives) may, from time to time, email you with additional information considered to be relevant to your professional/scientific interests, but only to those who have given their agreement to receiving such communications.

Security

Information that you supply to the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy is held securely and strict security procedures are followed to prevent unauthorised access or use.
